The University trains staff of marine professions for catching and processing fields and spheres of life of the European North of Russia. The training is made under the programmes of post graduate, higher, secondary and elementary professional education and under the programmes of additional education. 

Scientific and innovative activity of the University provides fundamental research and applied technological elaborations in spheres of marine navigation, industrial fish-catching and fleet exploitation, techniques and technologies of processing of hydrobionts and agricultural raw materials, sea bioresources and aquaculture, geology of the Kola Peninsula and the Arctic shelf, chemistry, ecology, environment and power efficient technologies.
