The Northern Fish-Producers Union was established in December 1992. For the period of its existence the Union became one of the leading fishing association in the Northern basin and the largest union of small and medium enterprises of fishery in Russia.Nowadays the Northern Fish-Producers Union includes 55 enterprise of small- and medium-sized business, and 43 among them are involved in catching and transportation of fish .The companies have at their disposal 90 fishing vessels. The work on  modernization and renovation of fleet is being done.Total amount of workers employed in enterprises of the Northern Fish-Producers Union is 5500.The main areas of fishery are the Russian economic zone as well as 200 miles zone of foreign states, situated along the coastal lines of the North-East and North-West Atlantic.
